About StressScore
StressScore was built with a simple belief: everyone deserves honest, clear information about their own mental load — presented in a calm, non-judgmental, and genuinely useful way.
Why We Built StressScore
Modern life is relentlessly demanding. Work pressure, financial anxiety, relationship complexity, constant digital connectivity, and the ever-present noise of global events have created conditions in which chronic stress has become the norm rather than the exception. Most people are living well above their optimal stress threshold — yet very few have ever paused to honestly measure or understand what that means for them.
StressScore was created to address this gap. Our goal is simple: to give anyone, regardless of background or access to professional support, a clear, honest, and compassionate starting point for understanding their current stress and burnout state. Not as a diagnosis. Not as a clinical report. But as a mirror — a moment of honest self-reflection, grounded in stress research and written in accessible, human language.
We believe that self-awareness is the foundation of change. You cannot meaningfully address what you haven't clearly seen. StressScore is designed to help you see more clearly — and then to point you toward the resources, information, and professional support that can help you move forward.
How the Assessment Works
The StressScore assessment consists of 12 questions covering the key domains in which stress and burnout manifest: sleep quality, emotional wellbeing, physical symptoms, cognitive function, work or productivity, social connection, and overall sense of control. Each question is drawn from — or informed by — established frameworks in stress research, including components of the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) developed by Cohen, Kamarck, and Mermelstein, and Christina Maslach's burnout inventory dimensions.
Your responses are scored and combined to produce a Stress Score between 0 and 100, along with a qualitative level (Low, Moderate, High) and a Burnout Risk indicator. The assessment also generates personalised recovery suggestions based on the specific pattern of your responses — targeting the domains in which your scores indicate the greatest need for attention.
Importantly, the entire assessment runs in your browser. Your answers are never transmitted to a server, stored in a database, or associated with any identifier. They exist only in your browser's memory for the duration of your session. There is no sign-up, no email required, and no persistent record of your results anywhere beyond your own screen.
Who StressScore Is Designed For
StressScore is designed for anyone who suspects they might be carrying more stress than is healthy, or who wants to check in honestly with how they're doing. It is particularly useful for people navigating demanding work environments, significant life transitions, financial difficulty, relationship challenges, or the cumulative pressure of caregiving. It is also designed for people who are simply curious about their stress patterns and want a structured, thoughtful way to reflect on them.
The assessment is not designed for people in acute mental health crisis. If you are experiencing a psychiatric emergency, thoughts of self-harm or suicide, or severe symptoms of a mental health condition, please contact a qualified professional or emergency services immediately. StressScore is not a crisis resource and cannot provide the level of support that severe distress requires.
For the vast majority of people who use it — those experiencing the ordinary but significant stress of modern life — StressScore offers a useful, non-judgmental starting point. It won't tell you everything, but it will tell you something worth knowing.
Our Approach to Content
In addition to the assessment tool, StressScore hosts a library of educational content on stress, burnout, and mental wellbeing. This content is written to be genuinely useful to the people who read it — not to perform for search engines, but to answer real questions, explain real mechanisms, and offer real guidance.
We draw on published research in psychology, neuroscience, and medicine to ensure our content is accurate and grounded. We also acknowledge that this is a rapidly evolving field, and we aim to update our content as the evidence base develops. Where we express opinions or recommendations, we aim to do so transparently and with appropriate caveats.
Our editorial principle is simple: write for the person, not the algorithm. Every article on this site is written with a specific reader in mind — someone who is struggling, curious, or seeking clarity — and is designed to leave them better informed and more resourced than when they arrived.
What We Are Not
StressScore is not a medical tool. We are not clinicians, therapists, or licensed healthcare providers. Our assessment is not validated for clinical use and cannot diagnose any medical or mental health condition. The Perceived Stress Scale and Maslach Burnout Inventory are used in research and clinical settings with validated protocols that our assessment does not replicate.
We are not a crisis service. If you are in distress, please reach out to a qualified professional. In the US, call or text 988. In the UK, call 116 123. We are not a substitute for therapy, counselling, or medical treatment.
We are an information resource — thoughtfully built, honestly presented, and committed to pointing you toward professional support when self-reflection and education are not sufficient. We take that responsibility seriously.
Privacy and Data
Your privacy matters to us. All assessment responses are processed entirely in your browser — no data is sent to our servers, stored in a database, or linked to your identity in any way. We do not know who you are, and we don't need to. Your reflection is yours alone.
We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate patterns in how the site is used (not individual users), and we display Google AdSense advertisements to support the site's operation.
